Hi! Maybe you can help. I'm looking into doing a Kat or Emile suit and I was wondering what materials(for not only the armour but face plates and paint too) I should be looking into. I have a crazy amount of sketches already, including blown open shots for the helmets and mostly Kat's robotic arm. Any help would be VERY appreciated of course. I had to miss this year's PCC so I figure I have a whole year to plan this out and refigure it.
Thanks again!
This looks amazing btw. We had a few Spartans at last years PCC but yours is a way better quality.

Hey! There's a few different techniques that can be used. The most common ones are pepakura (the one that I used) and foam. The pep technique uses a cardstock base (the templates are printed and assembled with the paper using a program that takes 3d models and preps them for printing) then it's strengthened using auto body fiberglass. That method is very time consuming and expensive but it gives a great armour look and you can add as many small details as you feel up to. The other technique that I mentioned was foam, this one uses the 2x2 interlocking foam floor mats that you can get at walmart or other stores. This is a very inexpensive method and gives great mobility as well as nice light armour, however it doesn't give quite as much of the hard armour look since it flexes.
for the visors people tend to use gold mirrored motorcycle visors since they give great visibility and have a very nice look to them.

If you want to learn more there's tons of information and helpful people over at the 405th forums.

good luck with you're build man!

Thanks so much! I have a few friends in the 501st who have been giving my pointers too, so that's been pretty helpful. I'm hoping to go with the pepakura but my patience is limited at best so it's going to take a bit.
As for the paint, I was looking into latex based since oils are crap anyway.
Thanks again for all the help. Eventually I'll start posting WIP's so hopefully I can get some feedback on Deviant.

always glad to help!
also, spray paint works just fine and is quite a bit less expensive than oil and latex paints as well as giving a nice even application rather than brushing.

good luck with he build man!
